Timeless miniature works of art, carved in relief
Cameos are among the oldest and most demanding disciplines of gemstone carving. Working in layered agate and other gemstones, Michael Peuster carves the light upper layer into a relief that stands out against the darker ground, so that every shift in color becomes part of the image.
As a master cameo carver (Kameenschneidermeister), he creates classical motifs as well as contemporary designs, personal portraits of people and their pets, and intaglios engraved into the stone. Every cameo is carved entirely by hand in his studio in Kirschweiler, near Idar-Oberstein, and can be set as a pendant, brooch, or ring in his own workshop.
