Master Gemstone Engraver · Master Cameo Carver · Bachelor Professional in Engraving and Gemstone Design
Michael Peuster is a double master craftsman, both a master cameo carver (Kameenschneidermeister) and a master gemstone engraver (Edelsteingraveurmeister), and holds a Bachelor Professional in Engraving and Gemstone Design. With more than 35 years of experience, he works from his own studio in Kirschweiler, on the German Gemstone Route right next to Idar-Oberstein, a region whose gem-cutting tradition goes back more than five centuries.
His expertise spans gemstone carving and engraving, from cameos and intaglios to sculptures and objets d’art, as well as classical sculpture and goldsmithing. This allows him to work in marble as well as in precious gemstones, and to take a piece from the carved stone through to its finished setting.
"I will always first hold a dialogue with each stone. But equally important is the influence of the Zeitgeist."
A Royal Commission

One of Michael’s most notable works is a life-size bust of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX) of Thailand. Commissioned by the Thai Royal Household and carved in Carrara marble over three years, the bust was presented to His Majesty on June 4, 2003, when Michael was granted a personal audience with the King.
